Biodiversity conservation and local development, with the communities of Beira.

The Natural Resources Management Association (AGRN) is a private, non-profit organisation of social interest, with legal personality and autonomy. It promotes and carries out biodiversity conservation and preservation initiatives and local development actions, with the rational and sustainable use of the communities' natural resources.

In partnership with national and international programmes, it strengthens institutional capacity and carries out climate resilience projects, with the active participation of communities in the integrated management of their resources.

Our history

More than 25 years alongside the coastal communities of Beira.

  1. 1996

    Founding

    Community members begin restoring the mangrove ecosystem, degraded along the coast of the Nhangau Municipal Administrative Post, in the city of Beira.

  2. 1998

    First mangrove planting

    The first planting work begins, guided by the Ministry for the Coordination of Environmental Affairs (MICOA).

  3. 2004

    Partnership with ADEL-Sofala

    Partnership with the Sofala Local Economic Development Agency on the mangrove reforestation project and the promotion of fuel-saving stoves and clean, renewable energy (solar lanterns and panels).

  4. 2018

    Publication in the Official Gazette

    The association is officially published in the Official Gazette (Boletim da República), Series III, no. 5.

  5. 2020

    Civil Society Forum

    Becomes a member of the Forum of Civil Society Organisations for the Marine and Coastal Area.

  6. 2021–2025

    Environmental education and recycling

    Environmental education and recycling activities in schools, with the creation of environmental clubs, benefiting more than 800 students.

  7. 2022

    Anjos Terrestres Association

    Partnership with the Anjos Terrestres Association, providing services on the “Plantemos Mangal” project.

  8. 2023

    Livelihoods and mangrove restoration

    Leading the project “Supporting livelihood alternatives and mangrove restoration programs in climate-change vulnerable communities in southern and central Mozambique”, funded by the United States Forest Service.

  9. 2023

    Andrea von Braun Foundation

    Partnership with the Andrea von Braun Foundation to carry out the mangrove restoration and alternative livelihoods project.
